Once again working with the extremely artistic and creative Nobuya Tamaki we want to share our tribute to the UNMASKED poster that we all know so well. It is with the utmost respect that we had Nobuya capture our likenesses in this art so that we may continue to showcase our respect to all things KISS with our tribute.

On August 14th we entered SPIDER STUDIOS here in Cleveland, Ohio to begin a long-awaited project for our tribute to KISS. Our goal was to re-record two classic KISS tracks (Shout It Out Loud & I Was Made For Lovin You) to add to our online marketing campaign. While the band was busy laying down the tracks and doing our part a number of our crew were in the shadows documenting the process in a candid and light hearted sort of way.
So here is our remake of "Shout It Out Loud" with a multitude of moments caught in the act during that session.

On August 14th, 2020 the members of MR.SPEED entered SPIDER STUDIOS together for the first time in 6 months. What came out of that session was not one but two remakes of two KISS classics. The first being "I Was Made For Lovin You" with the accompanying video and "Shout It Out Loud" which we are extremely proud of. Turn up your speaker volume and check out our cover of that KISS classic!
Shout it Out Loud
You may be wondering about the artwork that's been created for this post. Many of you know that I am still a collector of all things vintage KISS. I have an affinity with the Japanese 7" vinyl slip sheets so this is our tip of the hat to that.

At long last here is our very first music video! Everything here is 100% MR.SPEED! We couldn't be more proud of this finished project and we hope that YOU feel the same sense of pride that we do. This is a celebration not only of our tribute to KISS but what KISS means to all of us. The video was shot on location at the Lorain Palace Theater in Lorain, Ohio and the track was recorded at SPIDER STUDIOS in Olmsted Falls, Ohio over the weekend of August 14-15, 2020. Additional recording of the track took place on August 21 and 27.
All of us associated with MR.SPEED approached this project with the utmost respect to KISS and thank them for their willingness to let us continue to do what we do. We truly hope that KISS fans and MR.SPEED fans around the world can see and feel the passion that we put into our band. This project is dedicated to all of our fans who have believed in us for over 26 years.

I thought it might be fun to remember and talk about our recording session(s) that went into creating our version of the 1979 KISS classic "I Was Made For Lovin You". The opportunities for us to record are so few and far between and I'm certain that many of you have never even been in a recording studio. So I'd like to take you through my memory of how this all came to be on Friday, August 14, 2020.
The first choice was finding a suitable studio in which to create our version. This time we would chose SPIDER STUDIOS in the small suburb of Cleveland call Olmsted Falls. As with most recording studios you will almost always drive right past them and that's on purpose. They're discreet and incognito for a reason. The interior of the space can lend itself to the entire creative process when it's combined with the energy of the artist or band. Our session was set to run from 6:00 PM until 11:00 PM. Now you might think that five hours is plenty of time but I'm here to tell you that it's not. For me the limited amount of times that I've actually recorded in a studio walks a fine line between keeping it real and overdoing it. If you can get somewhere in between I think you'll be happy with the end result.
So Quinton, Mark and I set up in the main room while Jim was in the control room. Recording can either be done with the band all playing together which is what we did or by each instrument being "tracked" or recorded on its own. A "click" track is used primarily for the drummer to listen to desired beat thru headphones setting the tempo for the song while the rest of the band follows along. This is exactly what we did. Basically the entire band runs thru the song all together. We then discuss if anyone made any glaring mistakes that they might want to run it again. For this song I believe we ran it 3 times before we all felt that we had captured a good feel and version. Unfortunately, I was not satisfied with my rhythm part and replayed it an additional time. We then gathered in the control room and listened to the playback.
One interesting point to mention is that when we perform this song live we have a certain arrangement that we follow. It's an arrangement that follows more of what KISS did live and we adapted to the four of us. However, since we were using our version to mirror a video that we were recording the following day we needed to cut up our version and eliminate things here and there. It's at this point that Mark went back in to the main room and recorded his lead guitar parts. Once he was finished we felt that we had constructed and captured a genuine and honest version of the song with which to then begin adding the vocals. The vocals would then get recorded at two subsequent sessions over the following two weeks. Remember I told you we only had five hours of time blocked off and they were gone at this point.
So for now there's a short glimpse into the session for "I Was Made For Lovin You". Stay tuned for at least one or two more installments as I relive our great time together.

Today marks our 26th Anniversary as what we consider a legitimate tribute to the legend that is KISS. Throughout all these many years we have seen both good times and bad, the highs and the lows and the triumphs and tragedies. We haven't always made the right choice but we've always made our choice. There has been a standard set within this tribute band that has weathered more personal conflicts that we care to admit and celebrated a few victories that no one will ever be able to take away.
As we ride the wave of the current worldwide change of life we remain steadfast to believing in ourselves and pushing the limits to what we believe we can do. We're our own worst enemy. We will come out on the other side a champion for every KISS fan that feels the same way that we do, that if it wasn't for KISS our lives would be a bit less exciting and because of KISS we not only celebrate as a team but as people.
On behalf of everyone associated with our tribute to KISS we want to once again thank more people than we can mention. To everyone that carried a case or a drum, a guitar or an amp, a costume or a piece of drum riser. To our fans and our friends and our enemies too...thank you for pushing us to give our best at each and every show. We can't wait to see you all once again.
We're ready...are you ready? We've got a brand new attitude and a brand new show...THE RETURN OF MR.SPEED!

Our good friend Jim Neff sent us this image this morning. Apparently he's found a new use for an old MR.SPEED tee. Here is what Jim told me...
"So...I had this original white Mr. Speed tee that had seen better days. I've worn it proudly in Cadillac, on the streets of LA, in Florida, all over. It was time to retire the shirt. Then Ann noticed the logo was still in good shape and she suggested making a mask. Below is a photo of her handiwork. I think it turned out great."
Thanks to you Jim we not only have an iconic moment in KISSTORY but we also can stay safe behind the passion that we have for KISS!
Thanks for sharing with all of us!

Even though life is presenting us with daily challenges, MR.SPEED is utilizing the downtime wisely. Not only are we continuing to work on our new costumes, songs, props and stage set up we're giving one classic image new life again.
In 1979 I saw KISS for the first time and for 6 weeks leading up to that amazing experience this image of the concert ad was all that I had to cling on to in anticipation. Now as we prepare to unveil our new look and show we have once again commissioned the amazing Nobuya Tamaki to create this incredible piece for us. It is an especially proud feeling to see the four of us recreated in this iconic KISS ad and be able to use it for our tribute to KISS.
To all of our loyal fans the world over please continue to be safe and enjoy your lives. We are longing for the chance to bring our tribute to KISS to all of you. Once the world has found a renewed calm and sense of purpose we have a full schedule of shows lined up and are working on new shows weekly. 1. How did you approach going about your research and preparation to have your new "Catman" costume designed?
Given that there is very little info in regards to the Dynasty costumes, in-depth research was a very difficult task. To start, I gathered as many different photos as I could find and began mentally picking out the materials I would need. I was able to find out that Pixie Esmonde was the costume manager during this time, and attempted to get in touch with her, only to receive no reply. So starting from ground zero, I scavenged first craft stores, then the internet for the materials I would need. Folks, we are talking hours of looking for a green leopard print fabric, alone; let alone some of the other pieces!
2. Did you consult with a reputable costume maker or were you able to create a few of the pieces yourself?
When talk begin of pursuing this era of KISS seriously, back in 2018, I attempted to have my costume made from a costume maker in Indianapolis, IN, only to have the two bodysuits I ordered not fit or look right. Long story short, this was not the person best fit for the job-pun intended. So when Mark joined the band, we decided this was the time to take this era head on, and thus began my search for a new seamstress.
Local internet searches offered up very bleak options, so I posted on Facebook looking for suggestions for a semi-local seamstress that I could work with. A few options came up, one of which being Lyn Kream of Lyn Kream designs. I've never heard of her, but she is quite popular in the Drag Queen community, and has had a few of her outfits featured most notably on "RuPaul's Drag Race". After meeting with her I felt great about what was to come. I did stress that I wanted to work with her on this though, not just hand it off. During the winter months, I must have visited her home, which was a hour drive one-way, bi-weekly to check on progress.
All of the rhinestones were applied by me; which on the bodysuit alone, there are 1,370, and the application time in total was around 24 hours, or 72 episodes of Seinfeld. The other big task I took on was hand dying 60 fox tails with a vegan hair dye. Each tail took between 30 to 60 minutes, and then had to let the dye rest for as few as three days and as long as a week before being washed out, so you do the math...Other small elements were completed by me, but all in all it was a group effort of Lyn, myself, Joseph a.k.a. "The Leather Man" for my gauntlets and belt, Roy Adorjan with painting my lion heads, and lastly, Visual FX Productions helping to create my belt buckle. I almost forgot to mention, I'm slightly colorblind, so my eyes for matching colors and picking out the correct shades of green and correct color of rhinestones was our Stage Manager, Devan Ward.
3. Are you excited about the new change and wearing the costume from an era that isn't as popular with many fans?
I am thrilled to be doing this era with Mr. Speed! Is this my favorite era of the band? Probably not. Is it the most iconic era of KISS? I don't think so. But it is one of the most controversial points of KISS' career, and that is something I think Mr. Speed is all about. We don't want to do what fans and the general public might expect to see when going to see a KISS tribute, we want to surprise everyone. That overall arc is what I think has allowed Mr. Speed to thrive for over 25 years!
4. Do you see challenges with packing and storing your new costume once the band begins touring again and traveling?
It will pose some interesting challenges for us as a whole, yes. Personally, I could perform a show in my bodysuit, boots, and accessories and be okay. That all fits into a duffle bag if I need it to. But I wanted to do the crown jewel, if you will, of Peter's costume, that being his green, "cat-tail-cape". So to bring that on the road, I had to purchase a large suitcase. But I am by no means complaining about it, I am jazzed to be able to have that piece of the costume in our presentation.
5. Knowing that you can't please all of the fans all the time are you confident this new era and direction of MR.SPEED?
I am completely confident. I have never pleased everyone in my life. I've never been "cool" or hip with what was going on in society at a certain time. I've always marched to the beat of my own drum-pun intended-and I feel that by doing so, I've been able to achieve certain hopes and dreams I've had. Popularity, to me, is defined as the quantity of people that know you, and I think after the big unveiling of not only our costumes, but our new stage as well, that Mr. Speed will become quite a bit more popular.

A father and son came to see us at the Marion Cultural & Civic Center on Friday night in Marion, IL. I'll let Scott Ellis tell you the rest...
Many of you--my friends and peers--attended the Mr. Speed KISS tribute concert at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center on March 6, 2020. And based on our discussions in the lobby after the show, and here on my pages, it seems we all came to the same conclusion: Mr. Speed have built a very mighty time machine, and we all got to take one heck of a ride in it with them.
I've been a working musician since before I even graduated high school in 1987. I've toured the US at least 15 times over the years, as well as Europe and the Mediterranean. I've seen so many "tribute bands" that I've lost count. Most (and I do mean MOST) are agonizing to listen to. There are exceptions, even a couple locally, here in southern Illinois. But not many.
I don't know what I expected, honestly, when my 10 year old son, an avid music fan and Scooby-Doo Aficionado, agreed to go with me to the Mr. Speed concert. We had seen the digital billboard next to his house while heading home after school, just two days after watching "Scooby-Doo! and KISS!" on Netflix. He saw the advertisement and said; "Sure!!! Why not? Let's go!"
So. Friday, March, 6, 7:25 PM. Father and son are now seated in the nosebleed section (his choice) of the Marion Civic Center balcony. "This could still be cool," I told myself, "despite them being a tribute band." After all, it's not going to be anywhere close to the real deal, so lowered expectations in exchange for the fun of the time spent with my son was all the reassurance I needed. It's worth it, no matter what lie ahead.
What lay ahead was absolutely THE. REAL. DEAL. This was no tribute band. This was KISS!!! Right in front of our faces and directly into our ears. This was as much KISS as the last time I saw the real KISS, several years ago, at SIU Arena, in Carbondale, IL. Yes, they are THAT good.
And...dare I say it? MR. SPEED WAS EVEN BETTER THAN ACTUAL KISS HAD BEEN AT THAT SIU PERFORMANCE. Mr. Speed were 100 precent AUTHENTIC. And that is not a word I throw around lightly. They were DETAILED. They were PRECISE. This is a team who have thoroughly studied every nuanced aspect of their art form. This is no ordinary tribute band. These are CRAFTSMAN. These are ARTISTS. And you can see, hear, and feel their love of what they do in every single display throughout the night.
This band is THE REAL DEAL. And I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to see this amazing performance, even more so that I was blessed to share it with my son. If you were not lucky enough to catch them this round, please do yourself a favor: Keep your eyes open. Save their schedule, and go see this show.
Many years ago, KISS put on the greatest concert I have ever seen in my life, in Memphis, TN, at the start of their "Farewell Tour." Trust me when I say; as long as Mr. Speed continues to grow in popularity, THERE WILL NEVER BE A TRUE FAREWELL TO KISS. There will only ever be an ongoing and absolutely WORTHY continuum of this legendary musical enigma.
Best wishes to Jim (Gene Simmons) and Rich (Paul Stanley), the rest. Thank you for your dedication to your craft, for sharing it with us, and for giving us such a fantastic concert event. See you soon.

Eight years ago today we took part in a world-wide search for the "World's Best KISS Tribute Band" at the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas. Although a shining moment in our history at the time and still proud of the fact that unless you were in the room competing you got nothin'...it's a feather in our history. But it doesn't define who we are today and so with a tip of the hat to those 20 minutes and the four songs we played (Modern Day Delilah, Makin' Love, Deuce and Black Diamond) we keep moving forward.
The band is better than it was back then and we're excited about what lies ahead. To our competitors from that day here's to ya'...it was a blast. To the KISS Forever Band who to this day remain brothers with us as fans and friends...SALUTE! To our loyal fanbase that still believes that long after the notes have silenced we're nothing without YOU!
Loudest Regards in KISS!

Boston said it best when they wrote "Don't Look Back...a new day's breaking". But if we don't look back on what we accomplished in the past 10 years we can't set our sights on what we hope to create with our future. So there were a few things that deserve to be remembered like our being crowned "The World's Best KISS Tribute Band" in 2012. Then there was our performance at the world famous Whisky A Go-Go on the Sunset Strip in 2014. And who could forget playing for the 2016 NBA Playoffs at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit in front of 18,000 people!
Looking into our future we have a brand new attitude and a brand new vision. We're excited about what we have in store and we plan to debut our new look and stage on our home turf of Cleveland, Ohio at the House Of Blues on March 14. The band/crew is better than ever and we're excited about what lies ahead. Here is our brand new tour name and graphic for you to get excited about seeing us on the road in 2020!
Here's to the new and improved MR.SPEED! We love doing it with all of you...
