MR.SPEED Exclusive! Catching Up With Janet Macoska
11.22.2015 | MrSpeedOnline.com
I caught up with Cleveland rock photographer Janet Macoska late Friday afternoon. Janet's work is featured in her brand new book "All Access Cleveland - The Rock And Roll Photography Of Janet Macoska".
Being a fan of rock 'n roll and the moments that are captured for us to relive over and over I had to have her new book. So a few weeks back I picked up a copy and found it to be exactly what I had hoped for. Full of great images and interesting back stories on many of the classic rock icons that we all grew up with.
So I shared a short time with Janet at a local event that she was a part of along with her working partner Peter Chakerian. Peter has seen MR.SPEED and was very complimentary of our efforts. They signed my book and we even discussed the possibility of working together in the future.
Here are the pages in her book that show some very well known images of KISS. You can even read how they personalized those pages to me.
I encourage you to pick up a copy. If you love music as much as I do it will very much be worth the money. Log on to www.janetmacoska.com to pick up yours today.

On Saturday they met up with Ace for the first time and wasted no time talking about MR.SPEED and some of our recent performances including our trip and celebration in Cadillac.
Devan presented Ace with one of the reminder bands that we contributed to the event and he promptly placed it on his wrist. Here is a great image of Ace sporting the band and showing some love for our tribute to KISS.
Ace was very interested in hearing about the 40th anniversary celebration in Cadillac and mentioned that he recalls the weekend being "crazy and a lot of fun".

Here is a news clip from yesterday's historic monument unveiling to KISS in Cadillac. We are very grateful to have been the first fans photographed in front of the monument once it was unveiled.
This past Saturday I completed a 36 year circle that has been on my bucket list for that long. I traveled to Boston to catch a solo show by New England singer/guitarist John Fannon. New England was the opening act at my very first KISS show in '79 and I've been a fan ever since. I not only met John and spent some quality time with him but NE's drummer Hirsh Gardner was there as well.
It was a magical night for me and I'd like to thank them for being so kind and generous towards me that evening.
Here are images of those moments that I'll always cherish...

09.02.2015 | MrSpeedOnline.com
Here's a short preview of our upcoming performance this Friday night in Medina at Rally In The Alley.
Thanks to Nancy Settoni for providing the article to us.
Over-the-top KISS tribute band Mr. Speed will kick it off Friday, Sept. 4 in full makeup, spandex and platform boots, standing in front of a wall of Marshall full-stacks and their iconic Vegas-like backdrop.
Right down to the very gear and set lists that made KISS shoot to stardom in the '70s, Mr. Speed - voted in 2012 "World's Best KISS Tribute" by members of the actual band - draws one of the biggest Rally crowds all season long.
"That's why we give them that slot," Quesada said. "They extend generations. There's probably more younger people out here for Mr. Speed than any other Rally. The nature of what they do, the spectacle that it is, parents who grew up loving KISS want to show their kids and grandkids."

MR.SPEED Exclusive! My First KISS...36 Years Ago Today
07.21.2015 | MrSpeedOnline.com
It was 36 years ago today that I saw my very first KISS concert. It was July 21, 1979, and my friend Chris and I took two buses from our street in a suburb of Pittsburgh to the Civic Arena. It was there that my life was changed forever. We had 5th row seats on Gene's side of the stage. This was my third concert overall (The Commodores and YES respectively) yet the entire night was amazing. The opening act was NEW ENGLAND and to this day I love their first record. If you haven't heard it I highly recommend that you give it a listen. It was produced by Paul Stanley and Mike Stone. To this day they have been the best opening act I have ever seen before KISS...in my opinion.
Then KISS hit the stage! The way they hit it was fantastic as they rose up from beneath the depths illuminated in their new signature colors. Opening with "King Of The Nighttime World" the entire show was magical for me. The heat from the flames, the texture of the confetti as it fell around me, the scent of marijuana all around me set the bar for everything to come after that. The songs were all there. I even remember Gene being upset with the pyro in "Rock And Roll All Nite" not going off on cue. Paul commented on how Pittsburgh was the "City Of Champions" with the Pirates and Steelers both winning world championships that year. Ace even donned a Pirate batting helmet during one song then tossed it into the crowd.
After the show was over Chris and I were so excited because we had backstage passes. However, we were not allowed access due to a stabbing at a recent show (or at least that's what they told us). So we took our tour books which were full of confetti and our concert shirts and headed home. All those years ago I never dreamed that I would still be such a KISS fanatic and fronting a great KISS Tribute band.
Thanks KISS for that night...you saved my life.
Below: The actual show ads from the Pittsburgh Press for the 6 weeks leading up to the concert. Back then you didn't plan for a show 6 months in advance like today but literally weeks which in my opinion made it much more exciting.
Shown also is my backstage pass and both my used and unused ticket stubs along with the article that previewed the upcoming Dynasty tour stop in Pittsburgh from Thursday, July 19th.

MR.SPEED Exclusive! On This Date In 1994
06.23.2015 | MrSpeedOnline.com
Today marks the 21st anniversary of our very first show. It's hard to believe how far we've come and yet still how far we'd like to go. I have some amazing memories of the past 21 years and some that I wish never took place. All of them have brought us here and for that I'm grateful.
This past weekend I went back to where it all began and met up with my "original" partner in crime Mike Gavigan. We visited the site of "The Decade" as it was called all those years ago. We recanted what we both remembered from that hot June night when 250 crazy KISS fans stood practically on top of each other to be a part of something that is still touching lives today.
As I've stated in the past it's taken the hearts of a few to reach the hearts of many. Some ex-members have passed, some are gone and will be forgotten, some are in the shadows and know they were a part of something cool...once.
To all of us that remain...let's do it all over again, even better. In the words of one of the greatest songs ever written it would be a shame "to be a rock and not to roll."

The appeal of Kiss for Andrew Sgambati has always been the superhero aspect of the legendary rock-and-roll band.
"I discovered Kiss when I was three," Sgambati said. "I discovered them through the TV movie (Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park) I didn't even know they were a band. I just thought they were superheroes like in Marvel Comics."
Now, nearly 30 years later, Sgambati, 30, has a chance every weekend to get his superhero fix when he dons his Peter Criss costume and gets behind the drum kit for Kiss tribute band Mr. Speed, which plays the Auburn Avenue Theater at 7:30 p.m. March 13 and 14.
Formed in 1994 in Pittsburgh by Rich Kosak, who performs as guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley, Mr. Speed was selected as the best Kiss tribute band in the world, beating out more than 200 other Kiss tribute bands in Las Vegas in 2012.
Sgambati's ride began in 2008.
The image and the colorful costumes adopted by the band may have been the initial draw for Sgambati, it is Kiss' music that continues to inspire him to pay tribute to the band.
"The thing people lose sight of sometimes is they are a band first," he said.
Sgambati, a banker by day, said he enjoys the chance to take the spotlight every show when Mr. Speed performs Kiss' most popular single, "Beth",which was originally sung by Criss.
After that, it's a toss up as to which Kiss tune he favors.
"I always like songs like 'Detroit Rock City' and 'I Stole Your Love,'" he said. "But they have so many songs and so many styles, from rock to disco. It's always what is your favorite at the moment. Then next week it will be something different."
Performance-wise Sgambati said, every Mr. Speed performance is a spectacle, aimed at getting as close as possible to the high level of showmanship displayed by Kiss itself.
"It's always such a huge performance," he said. "I always compare it to theater because you really inhabit those characters. No one wants to see Rich or Andrew or Joe Hess (as Ace Frehley, the Spaceman). They want to see the characters. The guys in Mr. Speed are putting out the very best Kiss product we can, we're all fans and try to do the best we can."
Although the members of Mr. Speed painstakingly don the makeup and wardrobe made famous by Kiss, Sgambati said they don't skip over the handful of hits that came during Kiss' unmasked period.
"We're different," he said. "We do the whole history of Kiss, two hours and twenty songs that encompass the band from the beginning to now."
Sgambati said Mr. Speed, which is based in Cleveland, Ohio, was anxious to win over new Kiss fans on the West Coast.
"Kiss fans are just really rabid for some reason," he said. "They just want to take that message from the band and ram it into other people's faces."
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m., March 13 and 14 show at the Auburn Avenue Theater are available at www.brownpapertickets.com. Cost is $19.62 for students and seniors, $21.63 regular admission.

On Thursday morning we leave for Auburn, WA for shows next Friday and Saturday night at the Auburn Theater. Joe, Andrew, Jim and myself are looking forward to taking MR.SPEED's polished and experienced style of classic KISS to the suburbs of the Emerald City for the this kick-off weekend to our Stick & Stones Tour of 2015.
So if you can't make it to these shows check out our Tour page as we're booking new and exciting dates on a weekly basis. Some of these dates are familiar and some are brand new to our schedule.
We've got new t-shirts in the works with and exciting new design and even the possibility of an exclusive shirt only available online coming very soon.
Thanks to everyone that has waited out the long, cold winter and is ready to help us melt the stages across the US.
We'll see you soon!

Hey Rockers! To everyone that supported our Platinum Tour in 2014 we wanted to thank you for coming out and rocking with us at each and every show. Being a part of "The World's Greatest Tribute Bands" from the world famous Whisky-A Go Go on AXS TV in April was an amazing experience for us and has us headed back to LA this coming August. From the club shows to the fairs and festivals each opportunity was a chance for us to bring our tribute to KISS to your town and we're grateful for your support.
Just a quick message to let you all know that we're gearing up for an amazing year in 2015. We're working on brand new MR.SPEED t-shirts that are going to be our best yet. Our Tour page is filling up with confirmed dates and there are many more in negotiations right now that we hope to add to our schedule very soon. Some of these dates have us taking our show on the road to places that we've never been before and we're excited about meeting and making new fans along the way. We've cleaned out our road cases and gotten rid of some junk that we've been carrying around to make room for new memories and souvenirs that we'll acquire. Keep an eye on our site for some exciting new changes and we'll look forward to seeing you as often as possible on our "Sticks & Stones" Tour of 2015!
